Frequently asked questions

Here you will find key information regarding our services

Key Information

  • Is Peterborough Care regulated?

Yes we are.  The Care Quality Commission – CQC – regulates all care homes, whether they are provided by the NHS, local authorities, voluntary organisations or private companies.

  • What care do we offer?

Within our company, we provide care to support people who require residential, dementia or nursing care. People’s need can change during their time with us and so we will do everything we can to adapt the care and support we give.

  • Are we able to Care for people living with Dementia?

All our care and nursing homes offer dementia care. The care team is involved in caring for someone living with dementia. We believe that everyone can live well with dementia given the right care and support.

  • What is the difference between a Care Home and a Nursing Home?

Both care homes and nursing homes provide 24-hour support, however, nursing homes have registered nurses on site 24 hours a day meaning nursing homes are typically utilised by residents that require regular medical attention or experience severe physical disabilities. This means that the cost of a nursing home is more than the cost of a residential care home.

  • When can I visit my loved one?

Under normal circumstances, we welcome visitors to our homes at any time, however, we want to make you aware that there are some periods in the day such as meal times that are busier periods of the day. Due to the changing nature of the coronavirus pandemic, we currently have a revised visiting policy which means that visiting can continue but with additional safety measures in place.

  • Content Insurance

We are unable to accept responsibility for items that are lost or damaged and therefore advise that prior to moving into one of our Homes, you should arrange suitable contents insurance to include for items such as; hearing aids, spectacles, jewellery and sentimental jewellery, televisions, mobile telephones, radio’s shavers.

  • Can I bring my own furniture?

We would encourage residents to bring small items of furniture including photos as we think that this can help residents remain happy and comfortable

Financial Information

  • What is the cost of Care?

Each of our Homes has a set fee range. The actual cost of care is determined by a needs assessment. To find out what it costs to stay in one of our homes, please telephone our Enquiries and Assessment team direct on 07949 809 730 or Head Office on 01733 562 328. You can also email newcare@peterboroughcare.com

  • What is included in the costs?

Your accommodation, food, activities and entertainment are included in the care home fees. Items that are not included are; hairdressing, chiropody, telephone line rental and call charges, escorts to booked appointments and specialist outings.

  • Is there any support available to help pay for my care?

This will depend on your individual situation, but care might be paid for in the following ways:
    Local Authority
    Self-funding
    NHS Continuing Healthcare (Nursing needs)
A financial assessment will be conducted to establish whether the local authority will contribute towards care costs and if so, how much this will be.
If a person’s assets (including property) have a total value of less than £14,250 care bills will be paid in full by the State, although they may expect a contribution if certain benefits or any income are being received. A reducing scale of support applies between £14,250 and £23,250, based on a person contributing £1 a week for every £250 in assets over £14,250. In England, if savings or the value of a property exceed £23,250 an individual will need to pay for care costs themselves in full. A financial advisor or a specialist care fees advisor such as Eldercare will be able to advise on the best options for each individual situation.

  • What types of funding do we accept?

We accept residents who will be funding their own care and residents who may be funded by The Local Authority but in some of our Homes Local Authority funded placements would need to be topped up by a third party to meet the weekly fee.

  • Are there any hidden costs?

We accept residents who will be funding their own care and residents who may be funded by The Local Authority but in some of our Homes Local Authority funded placements would need to be topped up by a third party to meet the weekly fee.

  • Can I move in straight away even though I may first need to sell my property?

The local authority should disregard the property from the cost of care for the first 12 weeks. If your relative’s other assets are worth less than £23,250 they should be eligible for a Deferred Payment Arrangement. The DPA can be repaid when the property is sold. The local authority should be able to help with this.

  • Can care Fees change?

We review our fees annually to cover any inflation and other predictable cost increases. This is done every year in March. The Local Authority will also review their standard rate annually. Local Authority funding typically increases in line with your pension. The only other time a care fee could change is if support or care needs increase to require nursing care or 1 to 1 support is required and we will discuss any changes to fees as early as possible.
